Year 1
The staff in Year 1 just want to say a big THANK YOU to all parents and children for this year. We did not expect it to go the way it did but we are so proud with how everyone handled it. A big WELL DONE to all families and children who had a go with the work we put on the website and we hope that you took the time to spend time together as a family and do activities that you may not have otherwise had the chance to do. We look forward to seeing all children when they return in September and we will be sure to visit them in their new Year 2 classrooms!

Over the Easter holidays we would like you to design new packaging for an Easter egg. The aim should be to reduce the amount of cardboard and plastic used whilst still protecting the egg. Draw, colour and label your designs and ask a grown up to email us a picture. Don't forget to write down what materials you would use. Check back to see if your design has been added to our website.

Speech & Language
Some ideas to help develop your child's understanding of speech & language.
Verbs: Talk to them about they are moving (sitting, running, jumping, climbing etc)
Category: Can they sort items into groups? This is called category sorting such as identify farm and zoo animals correctly. Clothes - what do we wear in the summer/winter.
Questions: Can they answer Who?, What?, Where? & Why? questions about a story and predict what will happen next. Can they justify their answer?
Prepositions: Can they place items correctly? For example can they place a ball UNDER a table? Next to the TV?

Year 1 Phonics Workshop
Welcome to Year 1
The children have been settling in to Year 1 very well. We have been setting routines and rules and teachers have been getting to know the children.

PE:
The children should have suitable PE kits in school at all times. Please name all items to prevent them from going missing. Kits should include: white tshirt, black shorts/ leggings and suitable pe pumps or trainers.

Reading:
All children are now in a reading group. Look in their book bags for their reading book and please practise reading at home.
Topic:
Our topic this half term is Location, Location, Location! We are learning about the world around us in Geography. We are starting to look at the neighbourhood that we live in and then branch out to learn about our city and which countries make up the UK. Talk to your child at home about where they live.
