Monday 13th July 2020

Hello Everyone!

We have now come to the end of the summer term.

A huge WELL DONE to all of you for working so hard at home and at school.  All of your teachers appreciate all of your effort and hard work.

We would also like to thank your parents for sending the

work in and for encouraging you to stay on track.  We hope you all have a great, fun filled, relaxing summer break!

Although there re plenty of websites which you can go unto, we have listed a few links which you can use to practice and sharpen your skills.  All of the links are games or quizzes.  Have fun! (useful websites).

You can still get in touch with me via email, if you need any help or support.

slb@anglesey.bham.sch.uk

(I will try to check my emails on weekly basis)

I will see some of you on Wednesday 15th July 2020 between 10.00-11.00 am, when you come and collect your reports.

Hi Year 6 children from the Sp & L Resource Base!

As you know, you will sadly not be having a secondary transition day this year. However, your new schools are very keen to get to know you and have asked you to complete a project.

The project is called 'Moving Up' and asks you to prepare a 'Happiness Box' and to do a piece of writing about yourself.

All of you have completed it in school. You can add more information during the holidays and then take it to your new school in September. Your new teachers will be very keen to get to know you so make sure you do your best work.

Good luck in your new schools, we will miss you all.

Click on the link below to find the project...

Note to Parents:

Hope you all are well. We really appreciate that you all have taken up another role of being a teacher to your child. Your child needs your help with the lessons we add to this page e.g. accessing websites, downloading PowerPoints, video, documents and helping them with reading instructions and collecting resources as well taking photos of their work and sending them to us. Your support to your child's learning is invaluable during this difficult time.

If you need any clarification or any further help with anything, please email us on; slb@anglesey.bham.sch.uk

Please keep an eye on the children that they are not online for a very long time at any given time and they are using the internet safely.

I would like to THANK the parents to whom, I speak to on phone regularly and also for all the emails and the work you are sending in.

Children: besides school work I would love to know what other activities you have been doing since Lockdown.  It's important to have as much FUN as you can during this period of difficulty...

Maybe you can think of your own games to play with your siblings or parents.

Watch BBC Newsround everyday. It has a lot of very useful information for children.

Have you watched today's BBC Newsround yet?

Some children have been making rainbows to show support for each other. Why don't you have a go at making one and stick it in your window.

My granddaughter made this rainbow.

Take a photo of your rainbow sent it to us via email and I will add it to this page.

Here is Sophia's rainbow;

Some children designed these posters to persuade everyone to stay home during the Lockdown due to CORONA Virus

The Easter story is at the heart of Christianity

Now can you research;

Why we give chocolate eggs to each other at Easter?

What is the significance of Easter Bunny at Easter?

Parents: In addition, the children from SL1 can access Year 1 Class Web Pages and the children from SL2 can access Year 3 Class Class Pages.

Dear Parents,

We have been instructed to close the school at the end of the day today, until further notice.

As advised by Government, we will do all we can to stay open for the children of key workers (NHS staff, police and other front line services) and the children with Special Educational Needs (Education and Health Care Plans (EHC plans), children with social worker involvement with the family). For those children who will be attending school, this will be in the Infant Building on Anglesey Street. 0121 4644388

As all children in the Resource Base have EHC plans therefore, you are entitled to send them to school but if you are self-isolating, do not bring your child into school until the 14-day period has lapsed.

As most children in the Base work at different levels therefore, I have prepared individual work for them and sent it home.

On our school websites, you can access any Year Group work that you feel appropriate for your child e.g. children from SL1 can access work on Year 1 class work and SL2, Year 3 work.

Thank you for your support in this difficult time.

V Padwagga.

Oxford Reading Buddy

Be sure to read regularly with your child during the school closure.

We will be continuing to celebrate our Speech and Language Base Reader of the Week.

This can be seen under Gallery Tab under Oxford Reading Buddy Readers of the Week Tab.

If your child is anxious about Corona Virus or schools being closed, please try to reassure him/her and here is some information that you can look at together.

Talk to your children about importance of hand washing. Here is a short video clip to convince them that soap and water is the best protection.

Welcome to The Sp & L Resource Base's online learning page.

Hope you all had a restful weekend.

During this time of school closure, in addition to your home learning packs, here are some activities to support children's learning at home.

Reading

Please make sure that your child reads for 20 mins each day.

All children in the Base have been given books to take home to read for enjoyment (the children have chosen these books for themselves). Talk to the children about the books they are reading. Ask; what happened in the chapter or what might happen next? What do they think about the book and which part is their favourite? etc.

They have also been given some other reading materials and comprehension activities in their Home Learning packs. Try one of these activities once a week.

Oxford Reading Buddy

Please can you make sure that your child logs at least twice a week.

There are lots of fabulous books to enjoy.

I have added their login details (On blue card) in their Home Learning packs.

This is an invaluable resource for helping your child continue their learning while at home.

Thank you for your support.

Writing:

Each child has been provided with a book to write a diary. They can write what they have been doing and how this CORONA Virus is affecting their daily life. Try to make at least 2 entries a week. Who knows, one day in future, these diaries might be used as history lessons for other children as this is an unprecedented time we are all experiencing.

Learn to spell words: The children have spelling lists in their packs. They can learn to spell 5 to 10 words a week.

In addition to the lists, the children can learn to spell -

  • Days of the week
  • Months of the year/ seasons
  • Number words to 100 e.g. 38 – thirty eight

Maths.

All children can work on number facts

  • Double of numbers to 10, 20, 100
  • Halves of even numbers to 100.
  • Times Tables 12 X 12
  •

There are lots of websites that you can use to learn number facts. Topmarks/ ‘Hit the Button’ is good website with which the children are already familiar with.

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button

Most of all, please make sure that the children keep active and do some kind of exercise every day. From Monday 23rd March, The Body Coach will be doing live PE lessons at 9 am every day on You Tube, make sure you get involved.

In addition, the Base staff will upload, English, maths and topic lessons regularly.

Curriculum

In the Resource Base, the children work on the same topics as the children in our

Main- stream school, so that they have opportunities to work alongside other children.

In SL1, the children are learning about the local area and wider city. We will be going for a walk around the local area to find some land marks and street furniture.

In SL2, Lower Key Stage 2 (KS2)children will be focusing on our Powerful Plants topic with Year 3. We will be visiting the garden and getting the chance to plant our own crops which we will be harvesting and cooking later in the year.

Our Year 6 children will be exploring the circulatory system (Topic-Blood and Guts) and learning how amazing but complex it is. Following on from this, we will be looking at the benefits of donating blood and recognising the importance of diet, exercise and lifestyle on the human body and how it functions.

In Maths, we will be focusing on place value, moving onto the four operations (addition, subtraction, division and multiplication).

All children have PE lessons with main-stream classes appropriate to their age and ability. This term PE will be outdoors. Children need to bring appropriate PE kits.

This includes:

  • White t-shirt
  • Black shorts
  • Trainers
  • Tracksuit bottoms (Winter)
  • Tracksuit Jacket (Winter)

Extra Curricula Activities

We are pleased to say that we are continuing with Tabla lessons this year on Tuesdays.

We are also able to take all our children swimming on Thursdays. It is important that children bring their costumes and towels every week.

Speech & Language Therapy (Sp & L)

The Speech & Language Therapists come in every Wednesday and a Sp & L Therapy Assistant every Friday to work with individual and groups of children. The staff at the Base continue these Sp & L activities in everyday lessons.

Please encourage your children to read, learn their times tables and do their homework at home.

Thank you for your support all through the years.
