Citizens UK Birmingham

Since Year 4, eighteen children from the year group have been working on a project with Citizens UK Birmingham. The project was to launch the CitySafe scheme in your neighbourhood, working with local businesses and institutions to help make the area safer and more welcoming. The launch was a success and featured in the local news, with some of the children appearing on Midlands Today. The children involved in the project visited the Great Hall at the University of Birmingham for a very special assembly. The children were a credit to the school and many people commented on how well behaved the children were. Well done to all of the children involved in the project!

PE

Our sports coach Luke will be working with our year group once a week this term. These sessions will take place on a Friday morning. Please remember to send your children to school with the correct PE kit that they were provided with in September. Now that the weather is much warmer, the children should be wearing their black shorts and their white top for lessons. Please check that your children are coming to school with the correct kit, including appropriate and sensible footwear for lessons outside.

Attendance

Attending school regularly means that your children will learn and progress. Each week we have a prize draw for the children with 100% attendance. The winner for each week earns a place on the bus for the end of year trip to Go Ape in Cannock Chase!

Trips

We have three trips planned for the next half term. So far you have received letters for the trips to the Symphony Hall and Bewdley. We will shortly be sending out the letter for the trip to Sarehole Mill.

Homework

It is really important for the children to be able to recall the multiplication and division facts for the multiplication tables up to 12 x 12. The children should try to spend 20 minutes each day learning these multiplication facts. We would like the children to have a rapid recall of these facts and the work that the children do at home will help with this.  Those children that do know the multiplication facts should start to learn the prime numbers.

A really good website to help your child is www.amathsdictionaryforkids.com

The children have the opportunity to visit the library on a Monday, where they can loan one book. The children are encouraged to take this book home to read. Please try and encourage your child to read their book each evening.

Thank you for your continued help and support.

Tickets for Schools

We have joined a scheme with Aston Villa Football Club which will give your child the opportunity to watch Premier League football matches at Aston Villa Football Club. For every game this season, local schools who participate in the scheme are provided with free tickets for matches at Villa Park.

The tickets are for U12s who attend Anglesey Primary School. The children can attend up to 10 matches during the 2014/2015 season for free, but they must be accompanied by an adult, who will have to pay either £15 or £20 for their ticket. An adult can take up to four children. So for as little as £15 or £20, one adult and four children can watch live Premier League football.

If you would like to know more about this scheme, please visit Mr O’Connell in Year 5 and he will be more than happy to help you and provide you with tickets. You can also visit www.avfc.co.uk and look in the tickets section for further details.

The 2014/2015 season finishes on Sunday 24th May 2015. If the scheme is running next season we will hopefully join again to give your children the opportunity to attend regular football matches. Thank you to all of those adults and children who used the tickets this season.
