Year 5

Dear Parents and Children,

Welcome to Year 5 and a new academic Year. We hope everyone enjoyed an incredible summer.

This Year is going to be full of many exciting and incredible experiences.

Our helpful team include:

Mrs Cumberbatch   5C  (Year manager)

Mrs Duncan             5D (Teacher)

Mrs Gayle                5G (Teacher)

Mrs Akhtar             (Teaching Assistant)

Mrs Clarke              (Teaching Assistant)

Mrs. Hussain          (Teaching Assistant)

It is important for children to have the correct clothing and footwear at all times , and especially for PE. Children should have a tracksuit and long sleeved top for PE as we often go outside, even when the weather gets colder. Other important items include:

  • White t-shirt
  • black shorts/leggings/tracksuit
  • PE pumps/trainers

Homework is given every Friday and we encourage children to continue practicing their times tables and the corresponding divisions until they can say them with quick recall. We ask that parents support and help children with their homework and encourage them to read a wide range of materials.

Every Thursday we collect School Fund and ask for a small contribution.

As the year progresses we will update the website with pictures and further information.

Please do not hesitate to contact a member of the Year 5 team, should you have any queries.

5D have been looking ar Pre-Raphaelite art as part of their Victorian studies. We are going to re create our own version of a famous painting called “ Our English Coasts”, painted by Holman Hunt. We started our clay sheep this week! Watch this space to see how it all develops.

Our Spring term curriculum is bursting with fun topics. From the classic Shakespearean novel, Hamlet, to the many exciting Myths and Legends we will be reading and discovering.

Children in 5C and 5D have been working with professionals from The Welsh National Opera. Ask your child to share some of their new songs with you.

Year 5 Trip to Brighouse

On Tuesday 27th February, 27 lucky children were chosen from across Year 5 to stay overnight at Brighouse Hostel in Atherstone. Take a look at the photos of this wonderful experience below.

Brighouse Evaluations

"The hostel was very fun and spectacular. It was a very enjoyable time and very fun teachers came with us. I loved going on the mudwalk - a walk in a muddy forest - but it was definitely fun. I got mud on my clothes but I'm lucky I brought spare clothes! I made a den in the forest with branches and my team came first! I would recommend visiting if you love spending time with your friends and getting dirty." Junyaid, 5D

Please encourage your child to use joined up writing and continue  learning their times tables facts and the related divisions.
