Year 3

Welcome to the Summer term in Year 3

 

It's the final term and it's more important than ever that we are focused and refreshed after the break, ready to get back into working so we can be ready for year 4!

 

 

Our wonderful team include:

It is important for children to have the correct clothing and footwear at all times , and especially for PE. Children should have a tracksuit and long sleeved top for PE as we often go outside, even when the weather gets colder. Other important items include:

  • White t-shirt
  • black shorts/leggings/tracksuit
  • PE pumps/trainers

 

Science

This term we are looking at rocks. We will be investigating the exciting world of rocks, looking at how the earth has been formed and what amazing things we can discover by examining the world around us. We will be comparing the geology of different areas around the Birmingham region and investigating maps to discover more about out own nation.

 

English

We will be looking at the book Sheep Pig by Dick King Smith. To start with the children will be making a biography and learning the skills of research and non fiction. We will then go on to discover more about the novel and practise some of our non fiction writing skills. We will be making a female villain and creating our own story by the end of the term.

 

Maths

We will be focusing on mainly on fraction and statistics this term. Understanding what a fraction is, looking at fractions of shape then number and beginning to compare fractions. Later in the term we will be moving on to statistics. We will also be reviewing work we have done so far and consolidating our understanding of calculus. 

 

 

Homework

Children will receive a weekly spelling test as well as times tables.

It is expected that children will know all their times tables from 0 - 12 by the end of the year. The more you can help at home, the better.

 

Every Thursday we collect School Fund and ask for a small contribution.

This term we are looking at light and shadows. The children will have the opportunity to investigate the effects of light on art through the ages with a trip to the Birmingham gallery in March

 

English

The children will be reading the book Ottoline and we will be creating Newspaper reports, postcards and developing settings.

 

Maths

We will be focusing on measure this term. Including addition, subtraction, conversion and measurement.
