SS Great Britain and The Clifton Suspension Bridge trips

We had 4 fantastic trips to Bristol in October. These trips related to our Victorian Britain topic, which is part of the year 5 history curriculum.

The children and staff visited SS Great Britain and The Clifton Suspension Bridge. The children received a guided tour of the famous ship, built by the famed Victorian engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel. In the afternoon the children took a short drive to visit the Clifton Suspension Bridge and admired the unique Victorian bridge, also built by Brunel.

Take a look at some of the photos and videos that we have upload, which show the two locations that year 5 visited.

This experience helped the children write a biography about Brunel's life. It was a great opportunity to learn about his life in this famous city.

Brunel's SS Great Britain 2021 television advert for family days out.

Our TV ad for summer 2021 brings our 'It's More Than a Ship' campaign concept to life giving a flavour of a family day out at Brunel's SS Great Britain. Created with Fable Studios (part of Treacle 7's Creative Collective), Future Kings and the in-house marketing team, this advertisement captures reactions to the immersive, multisensory experiences of a day out.

Mr Brunel explains why SS Great Britain is such an important ship.

History of Clifton Suspension Bridge

It's one of the world's greatest bridges and took 33 years to build. John Maguire looks at the history of Clifton Suspension Bridge.
