Developmental Language Disorder is sometimes referred to as ‘The most common difficulty most of us have never heard of’.  It is estimated about 2 pupils in every class have DLD Teachers having knowledge of DLD is so important for improving outcomes for pupils with DLD

What is Developmental Language Disorder?

Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) is when a child (over 5) or adult has difficulties talking and/or understanding language.

These difficulties impact on education and social interactions
The difficulties exist without another biomedical condition such as autism or intellectual disability.

Most of our children who are admitted to our Speech and Language Resource Base are diagnosed with DLD.
