Phonics

Thursday 14th July

Let's start the day with our Phase 4 tricky word song!

Today we will focus on ph and wh.

Match the words to the picture in the documents below.

Wednesday 14th July

Please start the day by going through this power point to check that you know the words for Year 1.

I would like you to practise your aw and ie phoneme today. Say the words out loud and match the words to the correct picture.

Friday 9th July

Well done for your phonics work yesterday. It is lovely to see all of your wonderful work!

Today we are going to be focussing on the digraph 'ue'. Watch and listen carefully to the video as they will explain the sounds that this digraph makes.

Once you have watched the video, there is a story for you to read. You can highlight (or write the words) that have the sound 'ue' in, and then answer the comprehension questions on the side. I have included the answer sheet for you mums and dads!

For the second sheet, you will need a dice. Roll the dice and depending on what you land on, you will need to read that word and then write a sentence with that word in. If you don't have a dice then you can choose a number!

Please send your work in to y1@anglesey.bham.sch.uk. We love to see what you have done!

Thursday 8th July

Well done for all your hard work this week so far! You are working really hard on your digraphs!

Today we are going to be focussing on the digraph 'ou' which makes the same sound as 'ow'. Please watch the video first and then have a go at the worksheets. You can just write it on to paper if you are unable to print it out.

For the first sheet you need to look at he picture and write the word underneath. Every picture will have an 'ou' sound in it. Parents, I have included the answer sheet in case you get stuck!

For the second sheet, I would like you to sort the 'ow' and 'ou' words into the correct boxes. Again, parents, I have included the answer sheet. Please let the children have  ago first before they see the answers!

It would be wonderful if you could send a picture of your child's work in to us at y1@anglesey.bham.sch.uk.

Thank you!

We hope yesterday you remembered all your split diagraphs and were able to match the pictures to the sentences or fill in the split diagraph words to complete the sentences.

Today we are going to be looking at another difficult diagraph 'aw' which sounds like 'or' as in paw, saw etc.

Here is a video to help you remember and spot the sound in different words before you start the activities.

Monday 5th July 2021

Hello again everyone, unfortunately our teaching has to be a little different again this week but we know you are all more than capable to do all your work from home now. Today and  during this week in phonics we are going to focus on the sounds we find most difficult as a year group. So instead of Powerpoints like we did before, there will just be a couple of activities you can try to improve your knowledge further.

Today we are going to look at some of the split diagraphs. Can you remember what they are? Can you explain to an adult in your house what they are and what sounds they make?

Here are a few activities for you to have a go at today. Have fun and stay safe.

Have a look at this video too to help you.
