Open the powerpoint below and try to fill in the blacked out words. Remember to read the sentence before and after to help work out the possible meaning of the missing word. Write 2/3 words for each blacked out section, if you can write more then do.

Open the file below to get a longer extract from Beowulf. Take your time reading the extract and clarifying any words you're not sure of. If you're really struggling use a dictionary.

This should take around 20-30 minutes to complete.

Retrieval

 

Today's reading session is all about retrieval questions. Follow the link below to watch the video and complete the activities. 

 

You will need:

  • Pen/pencil
  • paper
  • thinking brain

Step by step instructions:

 

  • When you click the link, click the button called 'Start lesson'
  • This will take you to a video and some information on the side
  • Read the information. Then, when you are ready click play
  • Pause the video after Mr Fozzard has instructed you to complete the independent work 
  • At this point close the video and click 'Next activity'
  • This will bring up a powerpoint for you to work through at your own pace
  • For the spellings, copy them onto your paper, read the word, cover it and then have a go at spelling it. Repeat this a few times until you can get it right.
  • Once you've completed all the questions and CHECKED them, move on by clicking next activity
  • This leads onto a quiz about today's lesson to complete and you can check your score at the end
  • All done!
